Arrival

Arrival was originally shot in 1979 on regular8 film with a small wind-up camera that gradually disintegrates and finally locks-up over the course of filming. The film was transferred to super8 and then to 16mm film. It has actually been shown at independent and underground film venues in Canada. In digitizing this miniature version for the web, I've omitted the five-minutes of clear film leader that preceded the footage found here; this was better suited to these informal screenings, allowing the audience time to get acclimatized to the theatre, the grain and the pace of the film.

Essentially we are presented with a singular vantage point over and along a train-tressle. Insignificant events occur. In opening-up a historical gaze that period of time is simultaneously closed-down; we're merely passing through.
